NEW ALBUM OUT NOW!

The new album 'Secret City' is out now as an internet download available from iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody...all the usual suspects.
The CD version is OUT NOW featuring a bonus track that is not on the download, available by mail order and from all our shows, along with the new T-shirts which are already available from the 1000 Watt store

David R playing one-off show with old band

DRB frontman to play one off reunion gig with his first ever band...

Way before 'David R Black', singer/guitarist Dave sang in a metal band called The Purple Effect. Like so many bands lost to the mists of time The Purple Effect shone briefly and brightly in the early nineties and were staunchly rock amidst the Madchester and Baggy scene. Labelled as cult heroes, the large following they attracted was rightly deserved and they were championed by many of the city’s hip journalists. By 1993 the Purple Effect, whilst touring Germany, were smuggled through checkpoint Charlie in a covered wagon to play what was to be their final show in East Berlin, never to play in Europe or the UK again…until now. They will be reforming for one show and one show alone on Sat 23rd May at the Met Theatre in their hometown of Bury. More on this soon....

Old news

DRB to play show with The Mission in Feb!

We have been kindly invited to play one of the Mission's Shepherd's Bush Empire shows on Thursday 28th February. We'll be 1st on and also on the bill are Clayton Troupe. We'll post details of stage time and tickets very soon. We'll also be posting details of some more DRB live shows in Feb and March. DRB are still busy working on new songs, and have started recording again with producer Joe Gibb. We'll be in and out of the studio inbetween shows in February and will keep you posted with our progress.

New DRB songs to be recorded...

David R Black are starting work on their next album this month when they go back in the studio to record with 'Hearts and Starts' producer Joe Gibb (Funeral for a Friend, Janes Addiction, 3 Colours Red). There may be the possibility of some more gig for them early next year inbetween studio time so watch this space.

Big thanks to all The Mission and all their crew for the tour, we had a great time and played some very enjoyable shows. Apologies if you've sent an email and we haven't yet replied, we're probably the only band in existence who doesn't have a laptop and can't email on the road!
We will reply to all of you and going to get some new pictures and a tour diary up on the site as soon as possilbe too. So cheers for all your support and for the great responses at the gigs, it means a lot to us!

Latest News...

The next single off Hearts and Stars will be released at the end of March as a digital download only with an exclusive live session b-side of Dark Halo.
The band will announce what the next single will be, on this site in the next few weeks so watch this space.
A tour is being put in place for March/April with more dates still to confirm - view the gigs here.

2006 Round-up

Well we've come to another year of trials and tribulations. Its actually been a really great year, we enjoyed a fantastic tour with New Model Army in May and went on to release the single 'Empire Building' and then 'Hearts and Stars' in October with a tour coinciding.
We're now working on B-side for the next single due out in March, with UK gigs to follow, so we will be playing a venue near you all very soon.

Thanks everyone for your support, your emails, for buying our records and for coming to our gigs. As always its very much appreciated. We wish you all the best for the new year, rock on 2007!

David R Black new album update

The new album is finished, we've also just finished a video for the new single which will be 'Empire Building', and we are just putting together the album artwork. Its been a long slow process but we know it'll be worth the wait. Both single and album aren't out until September but we will be playing a couple of shows over the summer before going out on a full UK tour throughout Sept, Oct and Nov.

Preview a new album track on the Sceaming Tarts complilation

David R Black are making an appearance with a sneak preview album album track 'Signals' on the Screaming Tarts 3rd compilation album due for release 3rd July (yes the image says 12th June but the release has in fact been put back). Be sure to pick up a copy, they're only £6 and also feature other brilliant tracks from King Lizard, Phluid, Zen Motel and many more.

Another preview track - 'No Code' can be heard on David R Black's myspace page as well.

End of tour - spring 2006

DRB would collectively like to thank all of New Model Army for having us on the tour with them and to their crew and Tommy Tee for helping us out at various points of the tour. Much love goes out to the hardcore NMA audiences who made us feel welcome as well as those who came along especially to support us. We've really enjoyed this tour, we will put some pictures up in the gallery as soon as possible, unfortunately we didn't take too many this time so if you would like to submit some snaps, email us at info@davidrblack.net.

October 2005 Tour and single release

David R Black will take time out from recording the new album to play a series of headline shows in October, including a show at Islington Bar Academy on 15th Oct with support from Black Jackson and Jupitar Sands, and the 1000 Watt showcase at Manchester Academy 3 on 24th October with support from Black Jackson, This Product and Jupitar Sands. All the tour dates are listed in the tour page. The new single 'Shot To Pieces', which was recorded at Mighty Atom Studios in Swansea with producer Joe Gibb (Leftfield, Janes Addiction, Madonna), is due for digital release (download only) 2nd week in Oct. More on that nearer the time.

DRB photo to appear in London exhibiton

This photo of Dave on the Living Colour tour last year will be on show at an exhibiton in London from 22nd July. The exhibiton is taking place in a place called 'The Boogaloo' in Highgate, London. This place has been described as; "This compact and exclusive boozer caters to a clientele of loaded bohos and A-list celebs (no night is complete without Kate, Liam or the like dropping in for a snifter). For the cogniscenti it is a musical Mecca with impromptu gigs ranging from Nick Cave to Pete Doherty plus the Best Jukebox in North London (TM)"

DRB update...

Sorry its been a while since we updated the site, we've been in Mighty Atom Studios in Swansea recording the new single and demoing new tracks for what will be David R Black's first full length album. We have been working with uber producer Joe Gibb who has worked with Madonna, Janes Addiction and Leftfield to name just a few! The new single 'Shot To Pieces' is scheduled to be released in October with live dates to follow.

Welcome to 2005!

Okay so that's a little late but happy new year anyway! Not got much to update you with but here goes...David R Black will be out on tour from the end of February and through March supporting the Spin Doctors. Also going to Holland in April as we have been invited to play the Dinxpop festival again in Dinxperlo after its success last year.
DRB have also been writing new songs and hope to release an internet single later in the year to coincide with their headline tour which is being planned for October.

DRB take a month out to write new songs

After the success of the spring tours through March, April and May, David R Black are spending June in the studio writing and recording new songs to be put on their 5th EP in the Autumn season. The Blacks are not yet sure which songs will make it on to the EP and how many tracks will be featured, but rumour has it that Dark Halo may be one of them.

In other news, DRB are preparing to tour again in July/August - dates will be posted soon.

More Tour News

Still touring their new EP Tinderbox, David R Black have been invited to support 3 Colours Red and German band The Donots on their tour in April. With this setting the pace, David R Black will be firing on all cylinders for their big UK and European tour in May and June with glam rockers AntiProduct.

On Tour with AntiProduct

David R Black will be heading out on a full UK and Euorpean tour in May and June with melodically racous dayglo rock n' rollers AntiProduct. Prior to the tour, David R Black will be supporting this warped and wired bunch at an acoustic gig at the 12 Bar in London on 5th April. For tickets and other info, call 020 7209 2248. New EP: 'Tinderbox'

David R Black have finished recording their new EP 'Tinderbox'. Tracks are 'Spell', 'Uneven' and 'Tinder' and the EP is due out for release end of Feb/early March coinciding with the start of the new tour. This CD is much darker than the previous one, but the band feel the songs themselves are of a better standard.

End of 2002 Tour

After a very long year of recording, gigs and touring Europe and the States, we can only ask what's next for this rock trio?! David R Black will be taking a timeout for the next two months to write new songs and prepare for the 2003 tour. Rumour also has it they will release a session EP with four tracks which are not on any of their other CDs. One track which could be featured is the heavy instrumental set intro from which their first EP got the name - 'Is A Spell'.
